Noise Tag

Noise Tag is an interactive sonic environment that uses the act of graffiti as a platform for exploring embodied interaction models. It attempts to deal with immersion by creating a 3 dimensional dynamic soundscape that responds to the participant’s bodily movements and intentions. The participant uses a spraycan to daub a noise at a location in space. That tag then continuously emits from that location.

The software uses a combination of camera tracking and electronic sensing to calculate the location of previous tags in relation to the participant, in order to create a 360 degree spatialised binaural soundscape that is realistic enough to immerse participants.

It attempts to deal with immersion by utilising the embodied sense of hearing, creating a dynamic soundscape that responds to the participant’s bodily movements and intentions. The body forms a crucial part of our perception process. Interactive installations that involve embodied interaction hold a significant key to understanding the relationship we have with our bodies in action and meaning.
